YOUR INFORMATION
Privacy notice.
Last updated: 1 November 2026
This website provides information about Rebecca Bainbridge’s books, events and writing. It has no contact forms, newsletter sign-up forms, visitor accounts or payment facilities, and does not maintain a visitor mailing list.
This notice explains how Rebecca Bainbridge (“I”, “me” or “my”) handles direct email correspondence and information available through my Substack publication. It also describes the external services used to display and protect the website.
Who is responsible?
I am responsible for my use of personal information in correspondence and in managing my relationship with readers and subscribers. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
Direct email correspondence
If you email me, I use the information you provide to respond and deal with your enquiry. I do not add you to a mailing list.
This information may include your name, email address, message and any attachments you send. Email links open your own email application; your message is not submitted to or stored by this website. Sent messages are handled by the email services involved, including my Gmail account. See Google’s privacy policy.
For ordinary enquiries, my lawful basis is legitimate interests: responding to people who contact me and managing my work as an author, while respecting their privacy. Where correspondence is necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract, or to perform a contract with you, I rely on that basis instead. I may also need to retain records to meet legal obligations.
Newsletters: Substack only
All newsletter-style correspondence, including book updates and event news, is managed and sent solely through my Substack publication. I do not run a separate newsletter mailing list outside Substack.
When you subscribe, Substack makes information such as your email address, name if supplied, subscription status and interactions with the publication available to me. I use the information available through Substack to administer the publication and understand reader engagement. I rely on your consent to send optional newsletter emails.
You can withdraw your consent at any time using an email’s unsubscribe link or your Substack subscription settings. This does not affect the lawfulness of emails sent before you withdrew consent.
Substack also processes information for its own platform purposes. Its privacy policy explains its data collection, cookies and other practices. Substack is responsible for its own processing; I remain responsible for my use of subscriber information.
Technical services and external links
This website is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare may process technical information, including IP addresses, request details and traffic-routing information, to deliver and protect the website. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
The website’s own code does not set cookies, run analytics or advertising trackers, or embed social-media feeds. It does not require account registration or sign-in.
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to request the font files. These requests can disclose your IP address and browser information. See Google’s privacy policy.
Substack, social-media and bookshop links lead to independent websites with their own privacy practices. If you email my literary agent or publicity contact directly, that recipient and their organisation handle your correspondence.
Sharing and international processing
I do not sell your personal information. Email, hosting and publication providers process information as described above. Where necessary to deal with your enquiry, I may share relevant correspondence with an agent, publisher, event organiser or adviser. Information may also be disclosed where required by law.
Service providers may process information outside the UK. Substack, for example, is based in the United States. The applicable transfer arrangements depend on the provider and service and are described in their privacy information.
How long information is kept
Email correspondence
I keep emails for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry and manage any ongoing correspondence. Some records may need to be retained longer to meet legal requirements or deal with legal claims. Otherwise, I delete personal information when it is no longer needed.
Substack subscriptions
Newsletter records are managed through Substack. Unsubscribing stops future newsletter emails but does not automatically delete your Substack account or all records held by the platform. Substack’s retention practices are explained in its privacy policy.
Your choices and rights
If you have emailed me, you can contact me about personal information in our correspondence. Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction of use or a portable copy. You may also object to my use of your information where I rely on legitimate interests.
For requests about your Substack account or information held independently by Substack, use the contact details in its privacy policy. Requests about my own use of subscriber information can be sent to me by email.
You can raise a concern with me or complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Changes and questions
I may update this notice when there are changes to the website or the way information is handled. The date above identifies the latest revision. For questions, contact [email protected].
